Enhancing Job Interview Skill Development - The Regina Work Preparation Center

Background

The Regina Work Preparation Center is a nonprofit, charitable, community-based organisation specialising in preparing and connecting job seekers and employers.

Committed to a mission of providing services that prioritise a person-centred and teamwork-based approach, they’ve worked with over 20,000 clients since opening as a vocational rehabilitation arm of Regina Social Services in 1973.

Goals

  • Elevate their job interview workshops to fulfil their clients’ varying needs
  • Streamline their information offerings to ensure a cohesive learning experience
  • Convey a holistic view of the interview process to create a clear picture of the components of a successful job interview

"When I teach interview skills now I won’t do it without Bodyswaps. I think that says it all right there.

It helps bring everything together and makes a lot more sense to people than what we’ve offered in the past."

Deployment

Job Interview Workshops

Utilised Job Interview Simulator in their small group interview workshops to allow for skill building and to provoke class discussions on what they’ve learned.

Staff Learning and Development

Beginning with Let’s Talk About Race: Navigating Microaggressions, staff have also been utilising the platform to develop and build their soft skills.

What Surprised You?

Discovering that Bodyswaps was particularly effective for some of our neurodiverse clients
and clients with mental health challenges. Those who process information differently found more success in learning with Bodyswaps.

The immersive nature of the training was helpful for better conveying knowledge and skill-building

"Another area that we’ve found it really effective is for newcomers to Canada, people for whom English isn’t their first language.

It seems to give them a better understanding of what an interview looks like here versus their home country. Some of the differences as well as some of the nuances of the English language."

Future Plans

The Regina Work Preparation Center are looking to where they can further integrate Bodyswaps within their programmes, for staff and clients alike.

They’re also looking to expand their partnerships with local institutions as a way of enhancing their VR knowledge and experience that they can offer their clients.
