The Royal Society of Medicine and Bodyswaps Research Programme

Discover the potential of immersive learning in healthcare at no cost to your institution as part of the RSM and Bodyswaps Research Programme, exclusive to RSM members.

Overview of the Project

In 2023, The Royal Society of Medicine and Bodyswaps collaborated to create the immersive learning module Navigating Angry Conversations. Leveraging the expertise of Dame Lesley Fallowfield, this module equips healthcare practitioners and students with the soft skills necessary to enhance patient-staff communication, improving outcomes for all.

Now, Bodyswaps and RSM are launching a research programme to measure the impact of immersive learning within the healthcare sector. Join this initiative to get free access to innovative simulation technology for soft skills training.

What is Bodyswaps?

We are a leading provider of immersive AI simulations for soft skills training, offering a variety of modules across healthcare, further and higher education, and enterprise.

Soft skills are increasingly in demand, especially in healthcare where pressures upon staff are reaching record highs. Our experiential learning helps healthcare staff and students to enhance their interpersonal skills to improve patient outcomes.

The Research

Users within the successful institutions will be asked to complete a survey before and after engaging with our modules on the programme, with the aim of testing the impact of immersive learning on healthcare education.

As a part of the research, we’ll also require access to in-app data to evaluate further the efficacy of the learning.

What people say.

"Bodyswaps jumped out to me because they had a lot of scenarios that could be used by a lot of different people in a lot of different roles. Even in the first sort of foray into testing, one of our GPs said this would be great in this circumstance. This would be great in a different circumstance. So we could easily see that it could be used in many different settings for many different roles."

85%
of learners report improvement in their confidence to apply the simulated soft skills in real situations.
"In terms of the the overall experience, it's the fact that it felt like a safe space in which to practice and and try techniques. It's just very different to what we're used to. Normally, the simulation is in person, big audience watching you, because you got to take it in turns. It felt very different."

87%
of learners report improvement in their self-awareness and knowledge of how to improve their skills.
"VR training is important for healthcare professionals because it's becoming increasingly challenging to try and get placements in hospitals and general practice. What this does is provide a bridge where they're able to experience a wide variety of things because the problems that you have with traditional placements is you don't know what you're going to come up with. Whereas with VR, you can try as many different scenarios as you want to help develop and build your own personal experience and portfolio, which then can be translated into real day practice."
