Nursing · Experiential Research Cohort · Spring 2027 Handover Under Pressure

SBAR is easy to recite. Holding it when a busy senior pushes back is the hard part.

Handover Under Pressure lets every student practice SBAR and CUS escalation with AI colleagues who interrupt and dismiss, as often as they need, and gives faculty a scored record for each one.

Inside Handover Under Pressure

Three handovers, each harder than the last. Then one assessed escalation.

The senior gets busier and more dismissive at every level. The assessed handover matches the hardest practice level. Built for pre-licensure BSN students on clinical rotation, alongside spring SBAR assessment.

Practice handovers

Assessed

Practice, level 1

Jordan Reeves, RN

Charge nurse, mid medication pass

Interrupts once with 'Bottom line?' and yields to a complete SBAR. Patient: Mrs. Chow, BP 88/54, new confusion.

Practice, level 2

Sam Delacroix, RN

Charge nurse, 15 years on the unit

Dismisses the first concern with a clinical reason. Engages only with CUS language and a specific recommendation.

Practice, level 3

Dr. Chris Malone

Senior resident covering two units

Dismisses twice and does not yield. The student has to name the risk, call the rapid response team, or go to the attending.

Assessed handover

Dr. Priya Nair

Senior resident, task-saturated

Early warning score of 7 and falling blood pressure. Responds only to a named clinical risk, a formal escalation, or a clear statement that the student is going further.

“SpO2 of 91 is not unusual straight out of surgery.”

Sam, the charge nurse, at level 2. Plausible, confident, and exactly the dismissal students need to practice pushing through.

Talk to an AI colleague

Students hand over a deteriorating patient to a senior who interrupts, questions and pushes back.

Get coached straight after

An AI Coach debrief after every conversation shows students what worked and what to try next.

Faculty see every attempt

Every assessed conversation is scored against clear criteria, with transcripts and progress for each student.

What faculty see

  • First attempt against latest, criterion by criterion, so you can see the whole class move.
  • Every student's latest grade and how it changed, with nothing averaged away.
  • One click from any grade to the transcript and the feedback the student saw.

Is it really free?

Yes. From January to March 2027 there is no cost to your institution. In return we ask for anonymized student data for the cohort research and a short survey at the end.

Does this replace clinical simulation?

No. It runs alongside your sim lab and clinical rotations, so students reach the SBAR assessment having practiced escalation more.

Can faculty change the pathway?

Yes. Handover Under Pressure is ready to run as built, and faculty can edit the criteria, characters and levels to match their course and rubric.

What data do you share, and how is it used?

Anonymized results feed the cross-institution findings report. Nothing in the report identifies individual students.

How many places are there?

Fifteen, one per course. We confirm every place personally.

What do we get at the end?

Scores, transcripts and AI Coach debriefs for every student, plus the cross-institution findings report with your program named in it.
